Deacons

The deacons are chosen by the church body to be servant leaders at First Lockhart Baptist Church, to assist the pastoral staff in ministering to the needs of the congragation. The word, "diakonos," which is transliterated in our English Bibles as "deacon" is simply the Greek word for "servant."
The deacons meet regularly with the pastor to discuss the physical needs of the congregation - plan workdays, and make themselves available to assist when and where needed. They try to be especially cognizant of the needs of the widows within the congregation.
Deacons also assist in administering the Lord's Supper, and are encouraged to serve on church committees and be proactive members of the congregation.
The Biblical qualifications for deacons are enumerated in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:3.
